Content Your A Level in Graphic Communication will encourage you to develop a personalised visual language that has clarity and originality. You will explore drawing through digital and traditional methods, experiment with a wide range of tools, materials and techniques and learn how to use sketchbooks to explore you own creative process by experimenting with imagery and manipulating meanings. The course will provide you with the opportunity to explore a variety of graphic visual communication methods including illustration, typography, and poster and packaging design. As part of the personal investigation component of the A Level, you will be required to produce a minimum 1000 word critical study. At the end of the course your work will be displayed at the annual art exhibition which celebrates the creativity of our learners. Graphic Communication will be of advantage to you if you wish to progress onto a foundation diploma in Art and Design. Entry Requirements In addition to the entry requirements on page 11, you will need GCSEs in an art-based subject at a grade 9-6. If you have not studied an art-based subject at school, but wish to be considered for the course, you will need to demonstrate your ability and interest in art and bring a portfolio to your interview. Content This course will help you hone your analytical skills and strengthen your essay writing abilities. To get the most out of your course, you must be someone who enjoys reading, researching, writing, asking questions and also be ambitious to develop a high level of skill in these areas. You will also analyse and investigate key historical events and personalities such as the social and political development of Britain in the 19th century and autocracy and dictatorship in Russia. Entry Requirements Please see the entry requirements on page 11. Assessment You will be assessed with exams at the end of each year of your course. In your second year, you will also complete a coursework unit on civil rights in the USA.
