A LEVEL Content You will explore creative practices such as painting, sculpture, mixed media, and print-making, with drawing as a core skill used to observe, develop ideas, and express emotions. You’ll learn to use sketchbooks to document your creative process and take part in gallery and research visits. The course includes a 1,000-word critical study as part of your personal investigation, and your work will be showcased in the annual art exhibition. An A Level in Fine Art leads naturally to careers in art, graphic communication, fashion, advertising and product design. Fine Art is also useful if you are considering a career in such fields as architecture, marketing, publicity, arts administration, animation and the media. ART A LEVEL Entry Requirements Please see the entry requirements on page 11. If you have not studied this subject before, you’ll need to bring a sketchbook or portfolio to your interview to show your ability and interest. Assessment Coursework and controlled assignments. You will also be required to produce a portfolio of coursework and separate controlled assignments. 12 CTK St Mary’s BIOLOGY A LEVEL An A Level in Biology can open the door to a wide variety of careers. Depending on what you study at university, you could go on to become a doctor, a lab technician, a forensic scientist or even a teacher. Content Biology is a stimulating and challenging subject that encourages high standards and sharpens your analytical skills. You’ll explore the connections between key areas of biology while strengthening your understanding of scientific methods. The A Level course also develops your mathematical, practical, and analytical abilities, preparing you for both higher education and the workplace. You’ll build practical skills and study core topics such as: biological foundations, exchange and transport mechanisms, biodiversity, evolution and disease, communication processes, homeostasis and energy, genetics, and ecosystems. Entry Requirements In addition to the entry requirements on page 11, you will also need either GCSE Biology or GCSE Combined Science at grade 6 or above. Assessment You will be assessed by examination at the end of each year of your course.
