Bursary
What is a bursary for?
A bursary is Government funded money that can be used to cover various expenses such as:
- Clothing, books and other equipment for subjects
- Support with transport when on work experience, visiting universities or other visits
- UCAS fees
There are 2 types of 16 to 19 Bursary:
- A bursary for students in vulnerable groups
- A discretionary bursary
Bursary for students in vulnerable groups
You could get a bursary worth up to £1,200, depending on your circumstances and benefits.
Who would be in the vulnerable group?
- Young people in care
- Care Leavers
- Young people in receipt of Income Support or Universal Credit allowance – supporting themselves or financially supporting themselves and someone who is dependent on them, such as a child
- Young people in receipt of Disability Living Allowance in their own right
Discretionary Bursary
You could get a discretionary bursary if your annual household income is £24,000 or below. The sixth form decides how much you get depending on authorised attendance. (See our policy)
Discretionary students will receive a laptop to use during their time with us.
Progressing Students
Students who have applied for one of the bursaries and are progressing to another year do not have to reapply. They do, however, need to complete and return to Reception, a Self-Declaration Form to confirm the annual household income remains £24,000 or below.
