A LEVEL

Languages are facilitating subjects as recommended by the Russell Group of Universities. An A Level in a modern foreign language such as French or Spanish would be beneficial to a great majority of courses at university, and would be particularly helpful if you choose to spend a year abroad. Modern languages can lead to a variety of exciting careers such as Translating, Interpreting, Finance, Law, Sales and Marketing, Engineering, Tourism, leisure, Public Sector, United Nations and European Union, Media, Teaching (primary and secondary), Linguistics. Additionally, the knowledge of a foreign language can allow you to pursue any career at an international level.
CONTENT
This course will help to expand your interest in the French or Spanish language and culture, as well as develop your linguistic skills. You will focus on a range of historical and contemporary topics which will further develop your understanding of France/Spain and Francophone and Spanish-speaking countries.
You will also study French/Spanish literature and film, which will encourage you to stay up to date with current affairs. You will also have the opportunity to travel to France and Spain to improve your linguistic skills and knowledge of culture.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum five GCSEs at grade 9-5
- English and Maths at minimum grade 5
You will also need GCSE French or Spanish at a grade 9-6.
ASSESSMENT
You will be assessed on your listening, reading, writing, speaking and grammar manipulation through translation.
